Hello! Well it's snowing outside and the time has come to release a new song. This one is pretty personal. It's the prelude to my family's journey out of Dallas. Nothing felt quite right since my dad passed, and it was hardest on my mom. So this song is for her. Trying to see the world through her eyes a bit. All against the backdrop of trying to remember we're only here for a short time. Things get built up and seem so huge and permanent while so much really is temporary.
The cover art is of course by my sister. Tarah always seems to know exactly how to capture what I'm going for. Drums on this one are by Dana Goodwin and engineered by Jan Schwartz, they both play in a fantastic band in Boston called Sunset Mission. This one was mastered by Brad Blackwood.
Thank you for being here after all this time, it really means the world to me. Hope this finds you well.
Sam - Grand Commander
Lyrics
No more food, no more fuel
Bones have all been scavenged
There's nothing I can do
I don't want to run away
And know you're all alone here
But I don't think I can stay
The specter of a memory
Is all that I can see
So bide your time
For I'll be leaving... temporarily
It's forever me and you
I promised that we'd make it
I said I'll see you through
I know fear builds while you wait
The ever present loneliness
The things you cannot say
We'll find a way through darkened days
And soon you'll come to see
You only held that heavy burden... temporarily
You have so much life ahead of you
Colors bursting from inside of you
Just beyond the pain and worry
A place you secretly
Dared to still believe you'd live to see
I hold the image in my mind
Believing I can find that place
A future redesigned
You can do it one more time
I'll chart the path to make it safe
We’ll leave the rest behind
Conscious of the passing moments
So grateful to be
Together in this fleeting madness... temporarily
